Scaffolding and a two-story building facade collapsed onto a passing New York bus today.
The collapse happened in the Harlem area of New York injuring 18 people, Some people were trapped under the rubble and rescued by New York Firefighters.
A witness said: “It just fell and it fell so quickly. “You just heard the boom and saw mostly smoke.”
Of the 18 hurt in the collapse, eight were passengers on the bus. Two police officers were among the injured after being hurt digging out trapped people.
Sasha Chavkin was on the bus when the accident happened.
‘We pulled into the stop and I heard a falling sound of something collapsing toward the back, and the back of the bus filled up with smoke,’ he told the New York Times.
‘People were running from the back and screaming. After about a minute, the bus driver let everyone off the bus.
‘I talked to a kid in the back who said he thought he was going to die.
‘He said rubble had fallen through the windows of the bus.’
Government Departments are investigating the accident.
