Build UK is a leading representative body for the UK construction industry, formed in 2015 through the merger of the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) and the National Specialist Contractors Council (NSCC). The organisation represents both tier one main contractors and specialist subcontractors — including scaffolding contractors — and works to improve the relationship between clients, main contractors, and their supply chains.
Build UK’s membership spans the full breadth of the construction sector, making it one of the most influential voices in the industry on matters of procurement, payment practices, skills, safety, and sustainability. For scaffolding contractors, Build UK provides a platform to engage with main contractor members on issues such as prompt payment, fair contract terms, and working at height safety.
Build UK publishes a range of guidance documents, industry surveys, and performance benchmarks that are widely used across the construction supply chain. Its work on the Common Assessment Standard for supplier prequalification has been particularly significant for scaffolding contractors seeking to demonstrate competence to main contractor clients.
The organisation also coordinates the industry’s response to key policy issues, including the implementation of the Building Safety Act, procurement reform, net zero, and changes to CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations. Build UK’s engagement with government, the Health and Safety Executive, and other bodies means it plays a significant role in shaping the regulatory environment in which scaffolding and specialist subcontractors operate.
