PHD Access has announced a €37.7m investment from MML Ireland and Goodbody to support its European expansion and acquisitions of established access businesses.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval, according to a company announcement issued on 21 October.

Led by MML Ireland alongside Goodbody, the proposed investment will back growth in PHD’s existing markets and entry into new territories. The Dwyer family will retain a majority shareholding through significant reinvestment and continue to lead the business.

PHD Access supplies scaffolding and specialist access services across the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. Its work spans construction, infrastructure, data centres, semiconductor manufacturing, life sciences and heritage projects.

The group’s services include mast climbers, stair access, temporary roofs, weather protection and bespoke engineering solutions alongside scaffolding.

Danny Dwyer will remain chief executive and Sean Dwyer chief strategy officer. John Fitzgerald will join as chair of the group board.

Danny Dwyer said the investment would support the next stage of the family business’s international development.

“This investment gives us the backing to accelerate the next stage of that journey,” he said. “We see a significant opportunity to grow in our existing markets and enter new ones to ultimately build PHD into the leading specialist access provider in Europe.”

The company said its existing European operations include Denmark, Germany, Spain and Portugal, with plans to enter the Netherlands, Sweden and Finland during 2026.

Shane Cooke, director at MML Ireland, said the investor would support PHD as it expanded its capabilities and international footprint. Finlay McFadyen, head of Goodbody Capital Partners, said Goodbody would invest alongside MML to support the group’s next phase of growth.
