CISRS Strengthens Scaffolding Safety and Competency in Qatar

The Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) has been making significant advancements in promoting scaffolding safety standards in Qatar.

The organisation’s presence in the region over the last four years has resulted in nearly 7000 CISRS-certified scaffolders, marking substantial progress despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recent completion of annual audits of four Qatari training centers, namely QISC/Simian International, Enertech/Simian International, Vibrant/3t, and Aecor/Safety and Access, and their successful accreditation renewal, is a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing high-quality scaffolding training under CISRS’s Overseas Scaffolder Training Scheme (OSTS).

“Our focus is to build momentum and encourage scaffolders to pursue higher levels of competency within the OSTS framework,” stated Tony Barry, Compliance Director at CISRS. “This benefits all stakeholders in the construction industry.”

CISRS Managing Director Dave Mosley further solidified this commitment during a crucial meeting with Ashghal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority. Discussions centred on expanding the OSTS program and enhancing the training provided.

Dave’s visit to the vast QatarEnergy LNG North Field Expansion Onshore Projects (NFXP) site in Ras Laffan provided valuable insights. He met with project teams and scaffolding subcontractors to explore ways to improve supervisor training, shorten recertification periods for lower-level qualifications, and incorporate more system-specific product training.

“Seeing the scale of these projects firsthand was crucial,” said Mosley. “It allows us to tailor our training programs effectively to ensure safety and efficiency on Qatar’s ambitious construction projects.”

“I would like to say a huge thanks to the NFXP Onshore Project teams and their staff for hosting the meetings, they created a lot of positive discussion.”

Following up on the proposed increased systems product training agenda, Dave met with John Brocklehurst, Managing Director of Scafom-rux, who was keen to discuss how best to promote CISRS training for their product both in the UK and via OSTS.
