Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme

The Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) is the industry-recognised training and card scheme for scaffolding operatives and supervisors in the United Kingdom.

Established in 1964, CISRS was created to provide a structured, verifiable record of training and competence for those working in the scaffolding sector. Administered on behalf of the industry by NOCN, the scheme operates a card system that certifies operatives at different levels — from the Scaffolder Trainee Card through to the Advanced Scaffolder Card and the Supervisor Card — ensuring that card holders have completed the requisite training and work experience before progressing to higher levels of certification.

CISRS cards are widely required on construction sites across the UK, with many principal contractors specifying CISRS as a minimum standard for scaffolding personnel. The scheme works in close partnership with the NASC and CITB to ensure that training courses are delivered to a consistent standard at approved training centres nationwide. CISRS regularly reviews and updates its training framework to reflect changes in industry best practice, working at height regulations, and scaffold design standards.

The introduction of online card checks and enhanced security features in recent years has further strengthened the scheme’s ability to verify operative qualifications on site.
