ITV Creates: Scaffolding Inspired ITV Logo By Sam Curtis and David Bennett

Part of ITV’s year-long on-screen identity project Scaffolder David Bennett and Artist Sam Curtis have collaborated in creating a new logo for ITV using scaffolding.

The new logo forms part of ITV’s year-long on-screen identity project called ‘ITV Creates‘. Since January 2019 each week, a different artist has created a piece of work, which is their expression of the ITV logo.

This week’s new scaffolding inspired ITV on-screen indent, first aired between ITV programs on Monday (18 November). Its been created by scaffolder David Bennett of IAC Scaffolding and London based artist Sam Curtis, the indents reflect a shooting star made entirely from scaffold tubes and fittings.

The interpretation of the ITV logo is based on a previous body of work by the duo called ‘Standard, ledger and transom‘. Sam commissions people who work in trades to help create sculptures using the tools and materials of their trade, but take away its function.

Speaking on camera David Bennett said: “Sam asked me if I would be interested then when he said it was for ITV, I jumped at the chance. He left me a blank canvas, so I decided to build a shooting star using 8ft tubes.”
