The scaffolding opportunity is one of a series of construction packages being brought to market for the Epic Campus development at Long Ashton, near Bristol, which is being delivered by main contractor Gilbert-Ash.
North Somerset Council confirmed the £500,000 scaffolding package on 27 August as part of a wider drive to connect local construction businesses with work on the major development.
Other current and forthcoming packages include brickwork valued at between £700,000 and £800,000, drylining worth £2 million, electrical works valued between £1 million and £3 million, and pipework and ventilation packages worth between £2 million and £5 million.
Major regional development
The campus is being developed for US healthcare software company Epic Systems and will become the company’s European headquarters.
Planning permission was granted in March 2025 for a phased campus comprising three office buildings, a culinary building, training centre and auditorium, alongside associated infrastructure and below-ground works. The wider consent also includes outline proposals for two further office buildings.
North Somerset Council has previously said the development is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs and contribute an estimated £140 million a year to the regional economy.
Somerset Chamber of Commerce has been appointed by the council to deliver the first phase of a business engagement and supply-chain programme funded through a Section 106 agreement with Epic Systems.
The programme is intended to help businesses across North Somerset identify and compete for opportunities generated by the development, including SMEs, microbusinesses and specialist contractors.
Contractors urged to register
The council said a number of work packages are now being brought to market through the Somerset Supply Chain programme, with further opportunities expected as construction progresses through 2026 and 2027.
Businesses are being encouraged to register free of charge on the Somerset Supply Chain portal to receive information about relevant tenders, supplier events and support.
At this stage, the £500,000 figure has been presented by North Somerset Council as the value of the scaffolding opportunity. Detailed tender information, including the precise scope, programme, scaffold quantities and procurement timetable, has not yet been published in the council announcement.
Scaffmag understands contractors interested in the package should therefore register with the supply-chain programme ahead of the formal opportunity becoming available.
